Over the past couple of days, I’ve received a handful of messages from fellow teachers who have come across this blog. It’s been so much fun to hear about how people are using CI methods in their classrooms! When we connect and share our ideas with each other, the possibilities that open up are pretty amazing. It’s a great time to be a World Language teacher. : )

After I posted my story Au Café Gourmand, a teacher on Facebook mentioned that she would love to see a story about French clothes shopping. I am happy to share this one, called Pierre fait du shopping. You can find it here at my Teachers Pay Teachers store.

Pierre fait du shopping is a light-hearted reading about a boy who has a very eclectic sense of fashion and a hard time finding the right size when he goes shopping at the mall. The story incorporates clothing vocabulary, adjectives, sizes, common phrases related to shopping, and the verbs porter, acheter, and essayer. As with the other readings that I have shared, this one evolved from a class story that I co-created with my students and later adapted for continued use.

Along with the story, the download also includes comprehension questions, a dictée, a listen-and-draw activity, and a writing prompt. These are the kinds of extension activities that I typically like to pair with my readings, in order to get the most out of the comprehensible input in the story.

Pierre fait du shopping is meant to be silly and fun, and my students have always seemed to get a kick out of it. Feel free to get creative and implement it in a way that meets your needs! If you teach with thematic units, this story could work well with other lessons related to French clothing and shopping. If you choose not to target your input, you could add this story to your classroom library or use it in your instruction in any way you like.
